Percussion

The orchestral training course led by Rocco Luigi Bitondo is aimed at students and graduates in percussion who wish to deepen their technical and musical study of the percussion instruments used in the orchestra.


The course covers the principal studies and orchestral excerpts of the symphonic and operatic repertoire, with particular attention to those normally set at auditions and competitions. Solo pieces and orchestral excerpts proposed by the student may also be studied.

Study programme

• Analysis of jazz forms applied to the saxophone, from Sidney Bechet to Michael Brecker.
• Modal, tonal and free improvisation.
• Jazz articulation and sound.
• The approach to performing in different line-ups (trio, quartet, quintet).
• Developing compositional creativity applied to improvisation.
• Stage presence and performance.
• scale study specific to the saxophone, across its full range of possibilities.
• Preparation of a full concert drawn from the repertoire of the great masters (Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and others), with an original piece to be performed at the annual final examination.

The advanced training courses are aimed at Italian and international students who wish to build on skills already acquired elsewhere.
