Rocco Luigi Bitondo
Rocco Luigi Bitondo discovered percussion at the age of five and at twelve was admitted to the Matera Conservatoire, where he graduated with distinction at twenty.

At the same time he completed his scientific secondary schooling and spent a year studying design at the Politecnico di Bari. He went on to graduate with distinction from the second-level two-year specialisation in percussion at the Potenza Conservatoire.


Contemporaneamente completa gli studi di maturità scientifica e frequenta un anno di Design presso il Politecnico di Bari. In seguito si laurea con lode nel biennio specialistico di II livello in Strumenti a Percussione presso il Conservatorio di musica di Potenza.

Studies and competitions
Over the years his focus has been chiefly on

percussion

in the classical and orchestral field, alongside work in a wide range of other areas: from

classical to jazz , from wind music to orchestra, from chamber music to traditional and folk music. At eighteen he won the award for best student of the Matera and Potenza conservatoires , performing as his prize Darius Milhaud’s“Concerto for percussion and orchestra” with the Orchestra Sinfonica Lucana. At nineteen he won first prize in the chamber music category at the “R. Ponselle” competition in Matera , followed by a number of solo recitals and appearances with piano. At twenty-two he won the audition for percussionist in the National Band of the Italian State Police and settled in Rome. All'età di 19 anni vince il primo premio nella categoria “musica da camera” nel chairing the panel and Professor a cui seguono diversi concerti solistici e accompagnati dal pianoforte. A 22 anni vince il concorso come percussionista nella Banda Nazionale della Polizia di Stato e si stabilisce a Rome. Qui, nel 2012, vincerà il concorso internazionale come Percussionista assistente ai Timpani del Teatro dell'Opera con il Maestro (principal timpani of the Wiener Philharmoniker) as external juror. Presidente di commissione e il Professor Anton Mittermayr (Primo Timpano dei Wiener Philarmoniker) commissario esterno di giuria.

He has worked with

world-renowned conductors including Riccardo Muti, Daniele Gatti, Sir Antonio Pappano, Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Jeffrey Tate, Yuri Temirkanov, Charles Dutoit, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, James Conlon, Juraj Valčuha, Myung-Whun Chung, Eliahu Inbal and Gianandrea Noseda, among many others. He has also worked widely in the contemporary, modern and chamber repertoire, appearing at international festivals including the Venice Biennale, Ravenna Festival, Tokyo Opera Festival, Traiettorie (international contemporary music festival, Parma) and the Salzburger Festspiele. Alongside his present post at the
