Ceccarelli Massimo
Massimo Ceccarelli is a double bass player, electric bass player, guitarist and composer. He trained in Rome at the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire.

As a double bass player he has studied with the leading specialists on the instrument: with Lucio Buccarella at the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire, with Alberto Bocini (1994, 1995), with Franco Petracchi at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia (1995, 1996), at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena (1996, 1997, where he won a scholarship) and at the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona (1998, 1999, 2000), and with Giorgio Rosciglione for jazz.


From 1998 to 2000 he was principal double bass of the Youth Orchestra of the “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia”, at the recommendation of Myung-Whun Chung, deepening his knowledge of the symphonic repertoire with conductors of international standing such as Myung-Whun Chung, Christian Zacharias, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Massimo Quarta, Gabriele Prencipe, Giuseppe Caramia, Franco Petracchi and Michele Campanella. In 1998 he was among the successful candidates in the selection for the youth orchestra of the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan.

Come contrabbassista ha studiato con i maggiori specialisti di questo strumento. Con il Maestro Lucio Buccarella al Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia, con il Maestro Alberto Bocini (1994, 1995), con il Maestro Franco Petracchi all’Accademia di Santa Cecilia (1995, 1996), all’Accademia Chigiana di Siena (1996, 1997 - Vincitore borza di borza di studio) all’Accademia Stauffer di Cremona (1998, 1999, 2000) e con Giorgio Rosciglione per il Jazz.

Petracchi, M. Campanella e molti altri. Nel 1998 è risultato idoneo nella selezione per la formazione dell’orchestra giovanile della Filarmonica della Scala di Milano.

He has made twotours of Germany with I Musici (Baroque repertoire), playing in the country’s most prestigious halls, among them the Berlin Philharmonie . He has worked and continues to work with the Rome Sinfonietta orchestra, of which he is principal double bass, recording and performing live a great deal of film music by Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani, Luis Bacalov and Franco Piersanti (also on electric bass) and by many other composers offilm scores . He is also principal double bass of theOrchestra Italiana del Cinema . In 2014 he published with Suvini Zerboni his edition of the “Studio per contrabbasso solo” byEnnio Morricone , under the composer’s own artistic direction. del Cinema. As a soloist he was a member of the ensemble
“I Solisti del Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia”
, with which he made an important CD of music by Alfred Schnittke conducted by Flavio Emilio Scogna, and performed

“Brevissimo” by Ennio Morricone for double bass and orchestra at the European festival in Bergamo, conducted by Andrea Morricone in the composer’s presence. He has been principal solo double bass of the Giovani Solisti della Filarmonica and of the Musica d’Oggi ensemble. For some years he has worked with leading contemporary music groups, among them Ensemble Alter Ego , with which he recorded for Stradivarius a monograph on Frederic Rzewski that won excellent international reviews, also on electric bass, and with which he worked with the great Georgian composer Giya Kancheli. With Ensemble Algoritmo he has given concerts in Italy and abroad, working closely with composers ofinternational standing and making a monographic CD of the music of Ivan Fedele. He is currently principal double bass and electric bass of theParco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble , alongside musicians of international standing. In 2018 he was invited by John Adams to play solo electric bass at the “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia” for the Italian premiere of his new work. He has recently recorded a CD of music by Vincenzo Ramaglia for solo double bass with loop station and improvised saxophone and drums. For some years he has explored the relationship between music and the spoken word, devising with his friend and collaborator Armando Pettorano a new and daring synthesis of the two, giving concerts in which he appears simultaneously as performer and speaker . He calls this form “Recitar Suonando” : performing original music and repertoire pieces, such as movements from Bach’s cello suites, while reciting poetry and prose by authors including Pier Paolo Pasolini, Alfonsina Storni and Giacomo Leopardi. Several composers have dedicated works for double bass to him, among them Albino Taggeo, Vincenzo Ramaglia and Francesco Careddu.. Una forma d’arte che ha definito “Recitar Suonando”. Berben of Ancona has published the Concertino for guitar and orchestra and the Romanesca dedicated to Mario Gangi. The publisher Brigante of Lagonegro has published the Ricercare for solo guitar. He works as an electric bass player with leading composers who are exploring the instrument (Luca Lombardi, Cifariello Ciardi, Lucia Ronchetti, Vincenzo Ramaglia and others). With Vincenzo Ramaglia he recorded the CD PVC Smoking for electric bass, cello, saxophone, bass clarinet and electronics. He wrote Music without future for electric bass and treble voice, performed at the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” in Rome in 2014. Central to his musical outlook is the search for a solid structure within which a “deep lyricism” can find room, as Leo Brouwer observed. Bruno Bettinelli, Angelo Giardino, Andrea Morricone and Federico Ermirio have all offered warm words of encouragement. He teaches double bass, electric bass, classical guitar and jazz/pop at the Sherazade music academy in Rome. e jazz/pop presso accademia musicale Sherazade di Rome.

His compositions have been performed and
warmly reviewed
in Italy and abroad. His musical background draws on the most varied experiences: starting from American

folk blues and the singer-songwriter world , which took him at just sixteen to play at the legendary FolkStudio in Rome, it developed into jazz-rock and jazz and into more commercial work (for five years he played and sang in the most prestigious piano bars and clubs in Rome)., che lo hanno portato appena sedicienne a suonare al mitico FolkStudio di Rome, si sono poi sviluppate nel jazzrock e nel jazz fino a lavori più meramente commerciali (per un quinquennio ha suonato e cantato nei più prestigiosi pianobar e locali Romani).

Those paths were set aside for a more strictly academic training, but were never entirely abandoned, and now find an outlet in the Skt Trio with Lucio Perotti on piano and Pietro Pompei on drums, and in projects closer to the singer-songwriter tradition with blues echoes.
