Advanced vocal course led by Martina Serafin
Leading to a production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni
The course runs for eight months and leads to a production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, staged in Rome in June 2025 and directed by Francesco Antonio Castaldo.
The course comprises 10 sessions of four or more days each (depending on the number of students), beginning in November 2024. From November to April there is one session a month; in the last two months, as the staging of Don Giovanni approaches, there are two sessions in May and two in June. All sessions take place in Rome, at the Aimart premises at Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 209.
Every singer who completes the course is assigned to a first, second or third cast and will appear on stage.
No more than twenty-fivestudents are admitted, chosen from all those auditioning by aselection panel. The auditions are open to the public and the panel’s decision is final. The auditions take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 December 2024..
TEACHERS
• Martina Serafin (soprano): technique and interpretation in opera singing.
• Sergio La Stella: repetiteur and conductor.
• Francesco Antonio Castaldo (director): the basics of acting. Studying and staging an opera: Don Giovanni.
• Edda Silvestri (flautist, former director of the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire, director of Aimart): how an opera production works.
SESSIONS
Each participating singer receives:
– 3 individual lessons with Martina Serafin accompanied at the piano by Sergio La Stella.
– 1 individual lesson in vocal technique.
– 1 group lesson with Francesco Antonio Castaldo.
There will also be group sessions in which Edda Silvestri takes students through the successive stages of the production up to the staging of Don Giovanni.
The purpose of the course is to give participants a unique experience that leads each singer to express through singing all the music they carry within, and to be the character rather than imitate it.
ENROLMENT
The course fee is €1,800, plus a €200 enrolment fee.
The enrolment fee is payable at the same time , on enrolment.
The course fee may be paidin a single payment or in two instalments , the first on enrolment and the second on the first day of the January session.
